Toys for Tots is located on a U.S. Marine Corps campus. For over 70 years, the U.S. Marine Corps has been collecting and distributing toys to children in need throughout America. Active duty members run the operation September – December of each year.
Earlier this month, staff members, as well as children and families from our Cupertino area centers, gathered to donate, sort and pack toys for children in need. We sorted 8 bins of toys for children ages 0 – 14 years of age. The toys are organized by age groups for boys or girls. We worked to fulfill 2 large orders, totaling about 500 toys packed.
In the past, the group would unload buses full of toys coming in from local seasonal events. Unfortunately, this year donations have been less than expected. As a result, we made a call out to our staff and families for any last-minute donations. We were able to donate a few extra bins of toys by the end of the third week of December.
Next year, the Cupertino area group of sites and staff plan to organize an even stronger effort to gather toy donations, and volunteer. The efforts have continually grown over the years and we are excited to be able to continue to volunteer in our community!
