End of Year Roundup 2021
By Valerie Kelly
What a year it has been! This time last year, we still faced a considerable amount of uncertainty, but together we pushed through. COVID-19 infection rates are at an all-time low, enrollment has picked up as we’ve opened our doors to serve more families. Despite a year of covered faces and physical and social distancing, we’ve accomplished so much and maybe even had a little fun along the way.
Last year, we had seamless summer camps, we got outdoors, rode bikes, and tried new things. We interviewed and got to know many more of our amazing staff. We have had to make some incredibly tough decisions this past year and we would not have been able to weather the storm without what we now know as our Catalyst Family.
We started in 1975 as Continuing Development Incorporated providing unmatched quality care and continuing that promise in 2020 as we rebranded to Catalyst Family Inc (Catalyst Kids). Our Young Set Club soon followed suit, becoming Catalyst Camps shortly thereafter and Choices for Children later became Catalyst Community.
While many childcare organizations shuttered during the pandemic, we weathered the storm and fought for our families and communities. Our students even became experts with their sanitation skills, so much that the local school principal asked them to participate in a back-to-school safety measures video.
Tough times no doubt brought struggles to some of our families, one student, in particular, was struggling with her assignments, but with the help of our amazing Catalyst staff, she succeeded. It truly takes a village, especially during these times.
Some of our staff provided outreach to families over the past year, providing them with food and diapers, and anything else they might need.
If you caught a glimpse inside our centers, you would see that aside from masks and distancing, we had a plethora of happenings. We Celebrated Black History month, we stayed connected with virtual yoga and released our inner Gordon Ramsey during National Nutrition month by trying out a few different recipes. We even learned about Hawaiian and Japanese cultures as we neared Asian Asian American and Pacific Islander month.
Another silver lining is that we got to open new centers- Welcome Cerritos and Holder in OC! Please also give a warm welcome to our newest Catalyst Camps location- Livermore! Livermore launches their summer camp in just a few days. As we move closer to a post-COVID world, we are excited for what this next year will bring.
