Kindness Care Kit Drive at Regnart CDC 

For the students of Regnart CDC, the importance of kindness doesn’t just last for a single day or season.The school age children demonstrate and execute its importance in several different ways throughout the year; whether it be by picking up trash around the school, leaving painted rocks with cheerful notes in the garden to make someone’s day, or by offering to help teachers sort through lost and found.  

For the past several years, the students have been actively involved in choosing charities in which to raise funds for. Last year, they sold burritos in efforts to raise funds for the Camp Fire Relief Fund, raising nearly $200 for fire victims! This year, the students decided to do something a little differently, while still making a difference in the lives of others. 

A Care Kit Drive was launched at the beginning of December and was led by fifth graders Sonia C., Ashley S., Mahika D., and third grader, Mia N.  With efforts from parents and community donations, they collected small travel-sized items to create 24 personal care kits for a local homeless shelter. In addition to the care kits, they also collected blankets, jackets, beanies, and socks. 

“It’s really cold right now, and it makes me sad to think that some people don’t have a warm place to go or can’t get cleaned up.” Sonia C., student at Regnart CDC 

The process of assembling the kits took an hour.  The staff at Regnart CDC then dropped off donations to several shelters in the downtown San Jose area. 

“It’s a small thing to do for someone when they don’t have anything,” added Sonia C. 

It’s truly inspiring to see the community involvement efforts of our youth!
