Pre-K & TK: what you need to know
By Michelle Hoffmann
Among the ever-changing landscapes of our communities, we wanted to take a moment to provide some updates and a little bit of clarity on recent early childhood education legislation passed.
The recent passing of legislation will expand Transitional Kindergarten (TK) across California. This legislation will broaden TK programs to include 4years old. TK programs will also be located on-site at all existing elementary school campuses. Although your local elementary school will start offering TK programs in the next 1-2 years, parents will still have other options for PreK education and care.
The state’s TK program will include curriculum for half-day school days for children 4-5 years old. Studies suggest that by providing a Pre-kindergarten opportunity for learning, we set our children up to thrive in their following academic years.
As we prepare for the TK programming to be implemented throughout the state, we wanted to reaffirm that we are here to support parents and our communities by providing a safe and enriching environment for children ages infant – 12. Although recent legislation may alter the ways in which we provide early childhood education, it will not change our roots. Our Pre-Kindergarten programming is flexible, time-honored, and provides the full spectrum of care and early learning we all know our families need.
Our pre-K programs offer:
- The foundations of Kinder readiness
- Full-day and half-day pre-K, pending on your family’s needs.
- Smaller teacher-to-student class ratios.
- Engaging learning opportunities, year-round.
- Care during summer and winter breaks.
- Option for your child to have nap hour.
- Free meal included.
- No enrollment or registration fees.
As we continue to work together, we will provide important updates regarding our programming and legislative changes. If you have any questions, concerns, or general inquiries, please call us at 800-763-1731.
